The Botanical Ingredients in Skincare Formulation class introduces students to the role of plant-derived ingredients in cosmetic and skincare product development. Students will explore how botanical extracts, herbs, flowers, fruits, seeds, roots, and plant oils are used in skincare formulations, how to identify their cosmetic properties, and how to select ingredients based on product goals and formulation needs.
This class is divided into two educational sections designed to provide both instructor-led learning and independent online study.
Part 1: Live Virtual Theory Session with Q&A (1 Hour)
Students will participate in a one-hour live virtual stream session covering the foundational theory of botanical skincare ingredients. The session will introduce common botanical ingredients, their cosmetic functions, ingredient selection considerations, formulation compatibility, and responsible use in skincare products. Students will also have an opportunity to ask questions and clarify concepts with the instructor.
Part 2: Online Self-Paced Learning (4 Course Modules)
Students will log into their student accounts to access and complete four online course modules. These modules will expand on the concepts introduced during the live session through structured educational content covering botanical ingredient categories, cosmetic benefits, ingredient selection, formulation considerations, safety, and product development applications. Students can work through the modules at their own pace, review the material as needed, and strengthen their understanding of botanical ingredients in skincare formulation.
By completing both sections, students will develop a stronger foundation for understanding how botanical ingredients can be evaluated and incorporated into skincare product concepts.
